With the ambition of sharing
dance talent and knowledge to the youth, the group was founded
on 2nd June 2003 by Joseph Appiah Kojo Annan. As a young man
with a vision, he shared his plans with other talented young
people: creating a dance group which excels in traditional,
contemporary and other African dances. With the aim of educating,
creating employment, nurturing, protecting and keeping alive
African cultural values.
It wasn't easy convincing people to accept
his vision but with hard work, perseverance, discipline, honesty,
and termination, the Asanti dance theatre was born! At first,
the group struggled finding a place for rehearsals and moved
around in many different places arounf Cape Coast before they
got their present place called Asssepa (literally means 'Fertile
land').
Today Asanti dance theatre remains one
of the largest groups in Ghana and entire Africa.
