With the ambition of sharing dance talent and knowledge to the youth, the group was founded on 2nd June 2003 by Joseph Appiah Kojo Annan. As a young man with a vision, he shared his plans with other talented young people: creating a dance group which excels in traditional, contemporary and other African dances. With the aim of educating, creating employment, nurturing, protecting and keeping alive African cultural values.

It wasn't easy convincing people to accept his vision but with hard work, perseverance, discipline, honesty, and termination, the Asanti dance theatre was born! At first, the group struggled finding a place for rehearsals and moved around in many different places arounf Cape Coast before they got their present place called Asssepa (literally means 'Fertile land').

Today Asanti dance theatre remains one of the largest groups in Ghana and entire Africa.
